FAQs
There’s a really good chance that you are! Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and our faculty are prepared to meet you where you are. It is our job as educators to teach you what you need to know in order to be successful on your creative path.
You must first fill out an application online, send us your high school transcript along with a portfolio of artwork. If you need any assistance with these steps or have additional questions, please reach out to our admissions team at admissions@kycad.org.
If you are a transfer student with more than 30 college credits earned, you have the option to submit your college transcript in place of your high school transcript for admission consideration.
Applicants who have a cumulative high school GPA of lower than 2.0 may be admitted under a conditional status. Students admitted conditionally are required to participate in first-year programming and must maintain good academic standing as do all incoming freshmen. They also participate in programming prior to the beginning of classes that will improve preparedness and facilitate student success in college-level academics. Semester-long regular touch points keep these students from falling too far behind.
KyCAD is licensed by the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education to offer a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art.
One way is to make sure you answer the optional questions listed on the application. Help us get to know you better and let us know why earning an art degree is important to you. The portfolio you submit can also be used as a way to stand out. Think creatively about the pieces you include. Portfolios can be traditional or non-traditional. We’ve seen everything from painting and sculpture to cake decoration and puppetry. Show us what you do best! Make sure to include a description of each piece and what materials were used in the process.
