Get Ready for an Epic Night of Art, Fashion and Performance
Mark your calendars for April 11, from 6 PM to 8 PM at The Woodbine Chamber (236 Woodbine St., Louisville, KY), for an epic evening of art, fashion, and performance. This is your chance to see the incredible work from the students of the STU371 Collection and Showcase course.
In this class, students have been challenged to push their artistic limits by developing their own mini collections and performance presentations. This show is the culmination of their hard work- you won’t want to miss it!
We caught up with Vincent Tiley, the instructor behind this course, to get a sneak peek into what makes this show so special.
What inspired the name of the show?
VT: The students picked the name of the show. It's a completely student authored and produced event. Scopophilia means "The pleasure in looking."
What can we expect from the course and the show?
VT: The students are choosing their own adventure. The class is called "Collection + Showcase" in the Experimental Fashion and Performance Pathway. Each student is asked to respond to the idea of the fashion collection, create their own mini collections and produce their ideal group showcase to present them. There are lots of different approaches- some performance, some tableau vivant, even soft sculpture installation.
What do you hope students gain from this experience?
VT: I want the students to get a hands-on feel for creating their own events and forming artist collectives. Louisville is full of amazing venues that KyCAD students should feel like they have access to. What was incredible about searching for venues for Scopophilia was that no place we visited gave us a flat "no." Everywhere we looked at was willing to work with us. That's incredibly valuable! Hopefully this class will lead to a more proactive student body making use of everything this city has to offer.
A Final Thought…
Expect the unexpected! Vincent encourages everyone to “leave your expectations at the door.” This show is all about seeing the world through the students’ eyes, as they reimagine life through their art, fashion, and performance.
